The Parting Glass

Work in progress

"Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all."

Over the past years, my photographic project The Parting Glass has been a visual journey through sorrow and loss. I've aimed to capture the essence of profound farewells that mark the end of significant life chapters. Each photograph serves as a solemn reflection on absence and solitude during moments of transition, revealing layers of subjective meaning.

In this project, I've traversed the emotional impact of these losses, inviting viewers to contemplate the fleeting nature of deep connections. It can be a touching tribute to memories of what once was, reminding us of life's impermanence and the beauty found in fragility. Through my lens, I celebrate this inherent beauty, encouraging viewers to reflect upon and accept the losses we all face.

This project is both a personal journey of healing and an artistic exploration of the human condition. In summary, it's a photographic testament to memory, exploring the power of imagery to confront and heal while celebrating the connections that define our lives.

The Parting Glass title is based in a traditional Celtic song sung at gatherings where friends bid farewell.
